'1 Litre of Tears' is a 2005 Japanese drama about a 15-year-old school girl, Aya diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Degeneration, an incurable disease where the brain gradually deteriorates to the point where the victim cannot walk, speak, write or eat.
The script is based on a true story which follows the life of Aya from a diary she wrote of her experiences and as a purpose to remind herself not to give up.
Sawajiri Erika plays Aya and portrays such a compassionate character who bravely faces her disease by continuing to live a normal life whilst treasuring her time with her family and friends.
Her diary “1 Litre of Tears” was published after her death, because of its inspiring and courageous message. It's one of the saddest dramas i've seen and it will certainly make you shed many tears.
